Our Story
Hi, I'm Tomomi, founder and CEO of WHERE THE WILD THINGS EAT. I was born and raised in Yamaguchi, Japan and at 23, I packed my bags and moved to the US in search of adventure. In the early years, I felt deeply homesick missing my family, friends and the life I had back home but one of the few things that helped me go on was cooking the foods I grew up eating in Japan. Those meals brought comfort, a sense of home and slowly helped me embrace my new life here. In 2019, My family and I settled in Colorado to follow our love for outdoors.
WHERE THE WILD THINGS EAT was born from my love for those places shaped who I am — Japan, where I grew up surrounded by deeply savory umami flavors and Colorado where I found inspiration in the wild beauty of nature.
Japanese food culture is rooted in honoring each ingredient and bringing out its natural flavor through care and craftsmanship.
While celebrating the traditions that inspire us, our goal is to share a taste of Japanese umami with kitchens around the world blending authenticity with local taste. We're just here for you.
Mission Statement
Meet "Mogu"
Our logo represents a fuzzy, deer-antlered forest spirit - a symbol of "curiosity, playfulness and a deep love for nature". Its name is Mogu. The name comes from "mogu mogu" a Japanese phrase that mimics the sound of happily chewing or munching. Mogu embodies both the joy of eating and living in harmony with nature.
